Set project tracking options
Show project fields and decide whether invoices and bills need a project.

On this page
Project tracking adds project choices to invoices and bills and makes project reporting available to people with the required permissions.
Enable project tracking
- Open Settings.
- Select Features.
- Find Project tracking under Everyday.
- Turn it on.
- Review Require a project on invoices and bills.
- Select Save changes.
Older project-settings links lead to this Features page. Turning tracking on does not create a project. A person still needs Create projects, View projects or View project profitability permission for the corresponding task.
Decide whether projects are required
With the requirement on, invoice and bill validation requires a project. New project choices exclude archived or deleted projects. When editing an existing invoice or bill, you can keep its already-assigned project even if that project was later archived or deleted. If a document cannot save because a project is required, choose an available project or ask the person who manages settings to review the requirement.
With tracking off, the saved requirement is also turned off. Project fields and reporting navigation are hidden. This does not delete the existing projects or their recorded activity. A project-report link can redirect you back to settings while tracking is disabled.
What happens next
The feature change applies across the business after saving. A starting preset does not change the project tracking selection, so review this switch separately when changing presets.
Continue with Choose features and a starting preset, or use Find and save a setting to locate another setup task.
Good to know
You need the Manage business settings, roles & permissions permission to change these options.
