An amount is in the wrong account
Identify the source and posting status before changing a draft or reversing a posted entry.

- Where
- Reports, then General ledger
- You'll need
- The account code, date and reference of the unexpected amount
On this page
Find the entry that put the amount there. A correction depends on whether it is still a draft or already posted.
Identify the source
- Open Reports, then General ledger.
- Select the account and date range containing the amount.
- Select Generate.
- Inspect the entry's reference and source document before changing anything.
The ledger shows posted activity. If you are checking a draft elsewhere, use Edit or delete a draft. Editing needs Edit draft entries; viewing alone does not grant it.
Choose a correction
Posted journal entries cannot be edited. Use the reversal guide to review the source and required access before creating a correction. If the journal came from an invoice, bill, payment or bank record, follow that source's correction flow so its balances and history remain consistent.
Ask your accountant which account should hold the amount. Changing an account name is not a substitute for correcting the source entry.
Contact support when you cannot trace the source, the original document and journal disagree, or the correction is blocked. Include the entry reference, account code and exact message.
