Create or change a custom role
Define a permission set for internal teammates in the business you have open.

- A unique role name; only custom roles can be changed, and deletion needs no assigned members or pending invitations
A custom role groups permissions for internal teammates. Only business owners can manage roles, even if another person has Manage business settings, roles & permissions.
Create a role
- Open Settings, People & access, Roles.
- Select Create Role.
- Enter a Role Name of up to 255 characters.
- Optionally enter a Description of up to 500 characters.
- Select at least one permission under Permissions.
- Review any separation of duties messages.
- Select Create Role.
The Templates buttons replace your selected permissions with the template’s selection. View Only selects only the permissions that let someone view a list or page. It leaves out review, approval and other action permissions. Check the resulting boxes before saving; this is a custom internal role and does not change someone to free viewer access.
Change or delete a role
- Return to Roles.
- Select the pencil button titled View/Edit beside the role.
- Change the name, description, or permissions.
- Select Update Role.
After removing permissions from a role, review each assigned member's Permission Overrides on the Roles page. A permission previously granted through an invitation can remain selected as an additional override. Clear any unlocked permissions you intend to remove, then select Save Overrides. Do not assume the role edit alone removed that access.
System roles open for inspection but their fields cannot be changed. To delete a custom role, select its trash button titled Delete and confirm. QixCount blocks deletion while any current members or pending invitations use it. Reassign those members and cancel or replace those invitations first.
What happens next
Creating a role does not assign it to anyone. Invite someone with that role or change an existing member.
The role form displays conflict warnings and disables its save button for error-level conflicts it detects. After saving, check the member results on the Roles page: the form's checks do not use the business's current rule list. See separation of duties.
Good to know
Changes update assigned members in this business, while their individual permission overrides remain.
