For accountants and firms
Enter approved client books through a named firm assignment and find the guides for review, journals and period work.
- Who can do this
- Internal accountants, or active firm members assigned to an approved client
- Where
- Accounting firms
- You'll need
- Firm access requires two-step verification, client-owner approval and a named assignment
On this page
Enter the client's books
- Open your firm workspace.
- Complete two-step verification if prompted.
- Select Open assigned client books for the approved client.
The business owner must approve the connection, and the firm owner must assign each colleague by name. The firm owner also needs a named assignment to enter through the connection. Firm membership alone does not open client records.
If you are an internal accountant rather than an assigned firm adviser, open your business workspace normally. Your assigned role and individual permissions determine access there.
Pick the review you need
- Start with Reports overview, then use the general ledger or trial balance guide for detail.
- Use Create a journal entry for an entry and Post a journal entry for the separate posting task.
- Follow Reconcile an account when comparing the bank statement with recorded activity.
- Review Fiscal periods before period work.
Know the access boundary
Approved named firm access uses a fixed accountant permission set, narrower than the Accountant role a business can assign internally. It includes journal posting, reconciliation review, financial report exports and fiscal-period management. It does not grant business ownership or owner-only team settings. It also does not include budget permissions or journal reversal; do not assume every accounting action is available.
Client books remain separate. Firm staff see their approved assigned clients; the firm owner sees the firm's connections. Billing delegation is a separate owner decision. For setup or a blocked client, use the firm workspace guide.
