Start with your workspace settings, then work through real documents you are ready to record. The setup checklist gives you entry points; you can return to unfinished work later.

Review your starting point

  1. Review the business profile so your contact information is ready for documents.
  2. Review accounting setup, including the base currency and fiscal year.
  3. Read Accounting basics for owners to distinguish drafts, posted entries and payments.

Work through the checklist

Open the setup checklist. Its General tasks include your first invoice, online payments, a customer, a bill, an optional receipt upload and an optional transaction import. The company information and tax identification tasks also appear.

Begin with Create an invoice and save a draft while reviewing the customer, dates and lines. Saving a draft and marking an invoice sent have different effects. Follow the invoice guide before selecting a send action.

The checklist's Log your first expense opens the bill form. Use it for a vendor bill. Creating a bill and recording a payment are separate actions. The checklist can mark the invoice or bill task complete as soon as a document exists; that does not prove it was sent, approved or paid.

Review the result

Open the dashboard and compare its figures with the documents you entered. Draft journal entries do not affect account balances. Read the date descriptions before comparing charts with outstanding balances.

If others will work in the books, invite someone with the access they need. Use Find your way around to pin pages you expect to revisit.

Import data: Plan your move to QixCount.

Dashboard figures follow your viewing permissions. See Read the dashboard for the access needed by each panel.

Who can do this and what you need

Enter the correct business. Owners can manage settings. Other team members need the permission for each task, and a checklist link does not grant that permission. If you cannot open a task, ask the business owner about access.
