# The payment receipt

Read a payment receipt, check its invoice allocations and open or save its PDF.

Who can do this: Customers receiving an invoice payment confirmation

You'll need: A payment confirmation email from the business

## Check the received payment

1. Match **Receipt Number** to the payment confirmation from the business.
2. Check **Amount Received**, **Payment Date** and **Payment Method**.
3. Check each **Invoice** and its **Applied** amount when invoices are listed.
4. Select **View Receipt** to open the receipt PDF.

The email describes the whole payment. One payment applied to several invoices produces one automatic receipt listing those invoices. **Balance After**, when shown, is the balance retained for that payment allocation; it is not a live statement of everything you currently owe. A dash means the balance was not retained.

**Reference Number** appears when the business enables it. **Not yet applied** identifies money not allocated to invoices; **Refunded** identifies recorded refunds. An entirely unapplied payment can have a receipt without an invoice table.

After a General Stripe refund, the invoice table retains the original payment allocations. The refunded total shows the money returned separately.

## Open or keep a copy

The receipt link opens without signing in and is valid for 30 days. Keep it with the intended recipient. A PDF is also attached when the sender enables that option. Ask the business for another receipt if the link has expired.

The linked PDF reflects the payment when you open it. An attachment or email already received does not update. If a payment is voided, the current PDF shows a VOID mark and retains the original amounts as history. Deleting or voiding a payment does not recall an earlier email.

## Understand when a receipt arrives

With receipt emails enabled and a customer email address saved, QixCount attempts one automatic receipt when the business records a payment, Qix records one, or a live online payment is recorded. Importing historical Stripe activity does not trigger this automatic email. The business can also email a receipt manually or resend one.

A failed receipt email does not undo the payment. Missing mail alone does not establish that the payment is missing; ask the sender to check. If an amount or allocation looks wrong, contact the business with the receipt and invoice numbers.
