# Choose a project report

Find profitability and outstanding project reports and understand how their figures differ from financial statements.

Canonical: https://demo.qixcount.com/help/reports/project-reports

Who can do this: Owners, or people with *View project profitability* and *View financial reports*

Where: Reports, then All reports

You'll need: Project tracking turned on in Features

Project reports answer two different questions: how linked document totals compare with project targets, and which linked documents still have unpaid balances.

If **Project reports** isn't in the sidebar, someone with settings access can turn on **Project tracking** in [Features](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/setup/features-and-presets).

You need **View project profitability** permission, or owner access, and project tracking must be enabled. **View financial reports** permission alone is not enough. See [Projects overview](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/budgets-and-projects/projects-overview) for project setup.

## Find the right report

Open **Reports**, then select **All reports**. Look in **Projects**. Opening this directory also needs **View financial reports** permission. If you only have project-report access, open **Projects**, then select **Project reports** for profitability.

| Link | What it shows | Full instructions |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Project reports** | Revenue and expense targets, linked invoice and bill totals, profit and margin. | [Read project profitability reports](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/budgets-and-projects/project-reports). |
| **Unbilled projects** | Unpaid balances on existing linked invoices and bills. It does not measure work that has no invoice yet. | [Review outstanding project work](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/budgets-and-projects/unbilled-project-work). |

## Understand the figures

Profitability uses non-void invoice totals for revenue and non-void bill totals for expenses. Draft documents can be included. Profit is the difference between those totals; margin divides profit by revenue when revenue is positive.

Outstanding invoice amounts use balances on sent, viewed, partial or overdue invoices. Outstanding bill amounts exclude paid and void bills but can include drafts. Net outstanding subtracts bill balances from invoice balances. These figures are not the same as posted account balances or cash collected.

The profitability report's date fields filter project start and end dates. They do not limit invoice or bill dates. Before sharing its CSV download, check its scope: it includes the selected status and customer, without the project-date filters or grouping.

## What happens next

Follow the linked instructions to apply filters or open a project's documents. To compare project figures with a financial statement, first read [Why two reports can differ](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/reports/why-reports-differ).
