# Invite someone

Invite an internal teammate or a free viewer, then help them accept their invitation.

Canonical: https://demo.qixcount.com/help/people-and-security/invite-someone

Who can do this: Business owners

Where: Settings, then People & access

You'll need: An email not already a member or pending invite; an available user place for an internal user

Invite someone to the business you have open. You must be an owner to manage members. Invitations belong to that business, even when the person uses other QixCount businesses.

## Send an invitation

1. Open **Settings** and select **People & access**.
2. Select **Invite someone**.
3. Choose **Internal teammate** or **Free viewer (read only)**.
4. For an internal teammate, choose an **Internal role**.
5. Enter the **Email address**.
6. Select **Send invitation**.

Internal invitations reserve an internal user place. Sending an invitation does not start a charge. Free viewers have a fixed set of viewing permissions and do not reserve an internal place. If all internal places are used or reserved, cancel an unused invitation or review [user places](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/plans-and-billing/user-places).

Choose **External accountant** to see the firm connection instructions. External accountants join through an approved firm and a named assignment; this choice does not send a member invitation. See [Connect an accounting firm](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/people-and-security/connect-an-accounting-firm).

## Accept the invitation

1. Open the invitation link in the email.
2. If you already have an account with that email, enter its **Password**. For a new account, enter **Your Name** instead.
3. For a new account, enter a **Password** of at least eight characters.
4. For a new account, repeat it in **Confirm Password**.
5. Select **Accept Invitation**.

You join the business and are signed in. If your account or business requires two-step verification, complete that check before continuing.

## Manage a pending invitation

Invitations expire after seven days. In **Members**, use the circular-arrow button to resend a pending invitation and reset its expiry to seven days from today. Use the X button to cancel it. Expired invitations disappear from the pending list; send a new invitation.

An existing member or an email with a pending invitation cannot receive another invitation. Next, [review roles and permissions](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/people-and-security/roles-and-permissions).
