# Prepare exports from QuickBooks Online

Gather lists, unpaid documents and a trial balance, then reshape the files for QixCount.

Canonical: https://demo.qixcount.com/help/moving-to-qixcount/export-from-quickbooks-online

Who can do this: People with source records and the permissions for the chosen QixCount import type

You'll need: Access to the source exports; the chosen import permission to download a QixCount template

Prepare exports for the transition date you chose. QixCount reads CSV files, so an exported workbook needs preparation before upload. It does not accept a complete QuickBooks company backup.

## Reshape a working copy

1. Compare the exported account codes with the accounts already in QixCount.
2. Copy each supported record type into its own QixCount [CSV template](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/moving-to-qixcount/prepare-and-review-a-csv).
3. Convert account types to `asset`, `liability`, `equity`, `revenue` or `expense`.
4. Preserve document numbers and enter each document's remaining unpaid amount.
5. Check original dates and due dates using US month/day/year or `YYYY-MM-DD`.
6. Save each working sheet as a separate CSV file.

Do not upload a report's heading, subtotal or total rows as records. Customer and vendor opening balance columns are not imported. Use separate open-document files for amounts owed.

## What happens next

QixCount recognizes some QuickBooks headers, including account numbers, contact names and document dates. Recognition only matches columns; it does not convert every exported value into a supported value. Review all matches and errors before committing.

You need the [permission for each import](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/moving-to-qixcount/plan-your-move). Nonprofit accepts the three list types only. Continue with [accounts](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/moving-to-qixcount/import-a-chart-of-accounts), then [customers](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/moving-to-qixcount/import-customers) and [vendors](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/moving-to-qixcount/import-vendors). Review [what cannot be moved](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/moving-to-qixcount/what-cannot-be-moved) before relying on historical detail in the new books.

## Good to know

### Gather the source records

Use [Intuit's export help](https://quickbooks.intuit.com/learn-support/en-us/help-article/list-management/export-reports-lists-data-quickbooks-online/L1xleDrLp_US_en_US) to confirm the current export controls available in your QuickBooks Online account. Its reports and lists can be exported as Excel files. Follow that product's own instructions rather than treating QixCount menu names as QuickBooks instructions.

Gather your account list, customer and vendor lists, unpaid invoice and bill details, and a trial balance for the transition date. Keep the original exports separate from the working copies you prepare for QixCount.
