Canonical: https://demo.qixcount.com/help/integrations/review-stripe-refunds-and-disputes

Who can do this: Owners, or people with *View reconciliations*; retrying or skipping needs *Edit bank transactions*

Where: Banking, then Stripe activity

Handle customer refund requests and dispute actions in Stripe. Use QixCount to review the accounting records imported from Stripe.

## Inspect an imported refund

1. Open **Banking**.
2. Select **Stripe activity**.
3. Set **Type** to **Refund**.
4. Select **Apply Filters**.
5. Select **View** on the refund.

Check the amount, date, Stripe charge ID, customer, invoice and **Journal Entries**. Compare the refund with its original charge in Stripe. A refund amount appears as a positive amount in the activity list.

## Understand the invoice effect

In General, a refund requires the original current, posted payment and cannot exceed its remaining refundable amount. It returns unapplied customer money first using the accounts credited by the original receipt. Any remainder cancels the refunded portion of the sale using the original posted invoice's revenue accounts. The journal credits the cash or clearing account used by that receipt.

QixCount reduces the payment allocations and records the sale refund against each affected invoice. The refunded portion is not owed again: an invoice that was settled stays settled after a supported partial or full refund. The original payment amount remains unchanged. Unmatching or deleting a payment is a different correction that can reopen its invoice.

If the original payment is missing, the General refund stays **Failed** with a reason. Import the original charge, then retry the refund. Sale refunds involving tax, discounts, mismatched original postings or earlier refunds without matching retained source detail need a reviewed correction; the import stays failed instead of guessing those entries. Read the error and contact your accountant or support before retrying. Each partial refund is imported separately, and retrying targets the saved refund ID. Existing journals are not rewritten by these changes.

In Nonprofit, a successful US dollar refund requires the original current, posted payment. QixCount records a separate refund while retaining the allocation history, then recalculates affected invoice balances. It blocks refunds above the original receipt's remaining refundable amount. Archived source funds or programs, closed periods and other posting restrictions can also block the import.

## Review a dispute

QixCount's activity import handles successful charges, refunds and paid payouts. It does not turn Stripe dispute events into refund records. Check the dispute in Stripe and review the related charge, payment and any actual refund separately in QixCount.

For a failed refund record, read its error before using [Reprocess Transaction](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/integrations/stripe-activity#retry-or-skip-a-transaction). To retrieve recent missing activity, see [Sync Stripe transactions](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/integrations/sync-stripe-transactions).

## Good to know

Viewing activity needs **View reconciliations** access; retrying an import needs **Edit bank transactions** access. Owners have both.
