Choose the organization type that matches the workspace you want to create.

Who can do this: People creating a workspace

Choose your organization type before creating a workspace. It determines the available plans and accounting pages. This choice belongs to the business, so different businesses on your account can use different editions.

## Choose during signup

1. Open `/register` on your QixCount site.
2. Expand **Edit organization & plan** if the choices are closed.
3. Under **Organization type**, select **General** or **Nonprofit**.
4. Select **Apply selection** to load plans for that edition.
5. Expand **Edit organization & plan** again if needed.
6. Choose **Billing period** and an available plan.
7. Review **Internal user places** if that field appears.
8. Select **Apply selection** again.

Review the resulting selection before entering your details. Changing the organization type disables the previous plan choices until you apply the selection. QixCount then selects the first available plan for that edition. If no plan is available, contact support. If Nonprofit signup isn't open, the page says **Nonprofit plans are coming soon**.

## What happens next

Continue with [Create your account and start a trial](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/getting-started/create-your-account). Existing account holders can select **New Business** from their business list to make another workspace.

The business profile does not offer an edition switch. Changing an established business type requires a reviewed accounting conversion; contact support if you chose the wrong type.

## Good to know

### Compare the editions

| Edition | Workspace |
| --- | --- |
| General | Customers, invoices, vendors, bills, banking and financial reports. |
| Nonprofit | Accounting for US nonprofit organizations, including funds, programs, donors, gifts, grants and nonprofit reports. |

Nonprofit workspaces use USD and accrual accounting. In QixCount, accrual accounting records financial activity through posted entries, including customer amounts owed and vendor amounts due. See the [glossary](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/getting-started/glossary) for the terms used in the workspace.
