# I posted something by mistake

Follow the original record's correction flow and check the reversal before entering a replacement.

Canonical: https://demo.qixcount.com/help/fix-a-problem/posted-something-by-mistake

Who can do this: Owners, or people with the correction permission for the original record

You'll need: The original document or journal reference and the intended correction

Start with the record that created the posting. A journal correction can have different effects from voiding its source document.

> [!WARNING]
> Reversal changes the books and retains the original and opposite entry. Review the source and date before confirming a correction.

## Find the correction flow

1. Open the original record and review its linked journal.
2. Identify whether it came from a manual journal, invoice, bill, payment or bank record.
3. Read the correction guide for that source.
4. Confirm the original's status and reversal result before entering a replacement.

For a manual journal, use [Reverse a journal entry](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/accounts-and-journals/reverse-a-journal-entry). It needs *Reverse posted entries*. Posted entries cannot be edited as drafts.

For customer or vendor payments, use [Delete or void a payment](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/invoicing/delete-a-payment) or [Delete or void a bill payment](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/bills-and-vendors/delete-or-void-a-bill-payment). In General, deleting removes the payment and there is no restore. Deleting or voiding a payment releases its bank match. Voiding or deleting a matched invoice or bill, or reversing a matched manual journal, releases its match too. Nonprofit payment journals direct you back to that flow so allocations are corrected together. Invoices and bills also have their own correction limits.

For a bank record added to the books, [Undo](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/banking/exclude-and-restore) reverses its journal and retains correction history. That retained record cannot be added again. A match belonging to another document must be corrected through the original document. Voiding or reversing that original releases the match. A journal created by adding the bank record to the books stays linked as retained history.

Ask support if the source is unclear or a reversal fails. Provide the record reference and exact message, and review the treatment with your accountant before creating more entries.
