# My opening balances do not match

Compare committed opening records and their dates with the trial balance before replacing an import.

Canonical: https://demo.qixcount.com/help/fix-a-problem/opening-balances-do-not-match

Who can do this: Owners, or people with opening-import access and *View financial reports*

Where: Books, then Import data

You'll need: General edition, the transition date and your source trial balance

An incomplete import sequence or a skipped row can leave the opening totals different from your source. Compare the transition date first.

## Check what was added

1. Open **Books**, then **Import data**.
2. Review the completed open invoice and bill imports, including duplicate skips.
3. Review the remaining opening-balance file and its as-of date.
4. Compare the [trial balance](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/reports/trial-balance) at that date with your source.

Opening-import access needs *Create journal entries* and *Post journal entries*. Opening imports use Opening Balance Equity for the other side. The import page shows its current balance, which can differ from the balance at your transition date. Open documents and remaining balances need to be reviewed together; follow [Check your opening numbers](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/moving-to-qixcount/check-your-opening-numbers) before deciding what is missing.

## Replace an incorrect opening file

> [!WARNING]
> Undo reverses the opening journal on its original as-of date. It changes reports for that date. Review the source file and intended replacement before proceeding.

Use **Undo opening balances** on the completed opening-balance import. It needs *Reverse posted entries* and access to that import. A closed year, a closed or locked month, the backdating limit or a later bank reconciliation can block the reversal. Confirm the undo succeeded before uploading a replacement; QixCount blocks another active opening-balance import.

Ask your accountant to review an unexplained difference. Contact support with the import reference, dates, skipped rows and totals if the records do not explain it.
