# My invoice total looks wrong

Compare line amounts, discounts and tax with the total before choosing a draft or posted correction.

Canonical: https://demo.qixcount.com/help/fix-a-problem/invoice-total-looks-wrong

Who can do this: Owners, or people with *View invoices*; draft changes need *Edit invoices*

Where: Sales, then Invoices

You'll need: The invoice and the amounts you expected to bill

Check the line details first. The total and the amount still owed answer different questions.

## Trace the total

1. Open **Sales**, then **Invoices**.
2. Select the invoice number.
3. Compare each line's quantity, price and discount with your intended charge.
4. Review **Subtotal**, **Discount**, **Tax** and **Total**.
5. Check payment allocations separately when the remaining balance looks wrong.

QixCount calculates each line amount after its line discount, then adds those amounts into the subtotal. The invoice total subtracts the invoice discount and adds item tax. The remaining balance also accounts for payments and active return credits.

## Correct the right version

If the invoice is a draft, follow [Edit an invoice](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/invoicing/edit-void-or-delete-an-invoice) and review the recalculated values before posting. Use the [tax-on-invoices guide](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/taxes/apply-tax-on-invoices) to inspect the selected tax setup; this page does not decide which tax treatment applies.

A posted invoice has different correction limits. Read [Edit, void or delete an invoice](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/invoicing/edit-void-or-delete-an-invoice) before taking action, particularly when payments exist. Contact support if the displayed figures still disagree with their component amounts. Include the invoice number and the specific line or total you expected, without changing unrelated records to force a match.
