# Remove an unused vendor

Delete a vendor only when it has no existing bills or vendor payments.

Canonical: https://demo.qixcount.com/help/bills-and-vendors/remove-a-vendor

Who can do this: Owners, or people with *Delete vendors* and *View vendors*

Where: Purchases, then Vendors

You'll need: A vendor without existing bills or vendor payments

You can delete a vendor that has no existing bills or vendor payments. Owners can do this. Other people need *Delete vendors* as well as *View vendors* to open the profile.

## Delete the vendor

1. Open **Purchases**, then **Vendors**.
2. Select the vendor's name.
3. Open **More actions** beside **Edit**.
4. Select **Delete Vendor**.
5. Confirm the deletion.

The vendor leaves the active list and you return to the vendor list. There is no restore action on these screens.

## If deletion is blocked

QixCount blocks deletion when any existing bill or vendor payment refers to the vendor. This includes draft and paid bills; the restriction is broader than open balances alone. A zero balance does not make the vendor eligible for deletion.

The edit form's deletion message refers to open bills, but the final deletion check also includes other existing bills and payments. If you need to stop using a vendor that has history, clear **Active Vendor** on its edit form and select **Save Changes**. This keeps the history; do not remove transaction history to make deletion available.
