# Sync and review bank transactions

Run a Plaid sync, review incoming records, and understand the separate review page.

Canonical: https://demo.qixcount.com/help/banking/sync-and-review

Who can do this: Owners, or people with *View reconciliations* and *Edit bank transactions*

Where: Banking, then Bank accounts

You'll need: Bank feeds enabled and a healthy Plaid connection linked to the bank account

Syncing fetches bank records into QixCount. Reviewing them and posting them to the ledger are separate actions.

## Run a sync

1. Open **Banking**, then **Bank accounts**.
2. Open the connected account.
3. Select **Start Initial Sync** if no sync has run, or **Sync Now** for an existing account.
4. Review the result and any error message.

The initial-sync page starts automatically when opened. The first sync on a connection brings in what the bank has released so far for every account linked to that connection, up to 365 days old by default. An account linked later loads its own history. The bank may still be preparing older records, so a first sync can finish with few or none, and the rest arrive in later syncs. Compare the imported dates and records with your bank statement before relying on the history as complete. Contact support about gaps before importing overlapping files.

## What a sync can change

- Every sync takes new records for all accounts on the connection, so the imported count can include other accounts.
- When a pending record posts, the same record updates with the bank's posted details and keeps its category. No second record appears. If you've already added it to the books, only its bank status changes. If the posted amount differs, the record goes to [Exceptions](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/banking/exceptions). If its journal was reversed, the posted version arrives as a new record.
- If the bank changes or removes a record that's reconciled, void, matched, on a reconciliation or added to the books, QixCount leaves the record as it is and lists it under [Exceptions](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/banking/exceptions).
- If the bank removes any other record, it moves to **Excluded**.
- If a record can't be saved, the sync stops with an error after importing the others. **Last Sync** doesn't move for that account, and the next sync tries again.

## Review incoming records

1. Select **Review Imports** from the account, or **Review Transactions** after initial sync.
2. Review dates, descriptions, amounts, categories, and suggestions.
3. Use **All Transactions**, **Uncategorized Only**, **Categorized Only**, or **With Suggestions** to filter the current page.

This page shows up to 50 pending-review Plaid records at a time. Its filters search only the loaded page. Use it to inspect incoming records; use the bank feed for categorizing and posting.

> [!NOTE]
> Use **Add** in the bank feed when you need a ledger posting. **Import Selected** on this separate review page does not post a journal and removes the record from the posting workflow. Categorizing or accepting a suggestion here also moves it out of **For Review** after reload.

## What happens next

Use the [bank feed](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/banking/bank-feed-overview) to [categorize and add a transaction](https://demo.qixcount.com/help/banking/categorize-a-transaction). The feed's **Add** action creates the bank journal. If a review-page action has already moved a record out of **For Review**, check its journal before taking further action or contact your bookkeeper.

## Good to know

To view a sync or review page, you need *View reconciliations*; starting a sync and changing review records needs *Edit bank transactions*. Owners have both.
